I recently obtained this bonsai as a Christmas present and almost instantly fell in love.
The tag said it was a 2005 Juniper tree which is obviously incorrect.

I don't plan on doing anything too extravagant to it but I was wondering how I could highlight the bend at the base of the trunk to make it more prominent.

Any thoughts welcome and also tips for general care.

It looks like you have the start of a pleasing little tree. I personally dont see a need to bend the trunk any more than there already is, instead start looking at it and other tree's and start looking for a pleasing shape. I think it might be a spruce..... but I cant place the first name to it, sold here as Christmas trees. I know they hate the heat... Norwegian spruce sounds familiar...
Just wait till the tree starts to wind down so it doesn't bleed to death, use the time to research all you can. You have some nice branches to start forming.
