Can we have a photo so we know what size of leaf you need work on?

Total leaf defoliation in late spring/early summer works well. Just make sure that the tree is healthy.

This mulberry is 3 years old, a seedling from my mum's backyard. The leaves were about 8cm long however after cutting them all off, they regrew and are now about 3cm long. The tree is only 14cm high and I have it has only ever grown in a pot as I want a slender literati style. This is the first time that I defoliated this plant and am very pleased with the results.

Hope this helps

A very clever bonsai boy always taught that leaves reduced if 2/3 (two thirds) of the leaf was removed.
If you cut one third of the leaf off, nothing happens.
If you cut half of the leaf off, nothing happens.
If you cut two thirds off, the tree will grow and new small leaf and the old leaf will fall off.
