Hi everyone.

Here are some photos of my new Bonsai stand that I have just finished making.
It's all treated pine that has been stained black or mahogany.
I think it has come up quite well. It weighs a ton!!

I still have to put some shade cloth over the top and down the side's for some protection from the sun and wind.

I have noticed on a few of the postings that a lot of people remove their shade cloth in the cooler months.
If I use 30% cloth, would you recommend this or could it be left on all year round?
Or should I use a heavier cloth and remove it in the cooler months?

I would be interested in what you think.

Congratulations, a fine achievement. Should make a nice place to show off your trees.
Shade cloth: best if you allow yourself to remove it completely during winter.

Thats a show piece all right. What are the bits on the side for?
I think the shade cloth could be left on this all year round as it still allows alot of light in.

The bits on the side look like where the shade cloth will end.

The bits sticking out at the side are indeed where I plan to bring the shade cloth from the top down for side protection.

I just don't know what shade cloth to use

Great looking stand mate
I just bought some materials for a new (small) stand myself
I'm using sandstone tops and eco blocks (bunnings $8)
you could roll up the sides of the shade cloth on a daily basis depending on wind etc...
I would recommend the 30% shade cloth

Mate classic job your trees will look dandy on that stand. for the shade cloth i would go no less than 50% for summer even 75% the suns rays will still work the trees. I have a patio and it is 75% and i have had no frying this year of my plants.

Mate excellent job, that will look so profesional with all your trees on. 75 % shade cloth, it will still let a lot of light inn, if too shady make it so you can roll up the sides in winter.

Verry Nice Did you have plans (post if possible) or was it build as you go ,either way looks good . I don't know about down there but shadecloth strength would depend on placement with regards to the line of the sun and species of trees .As others have said it will look a treat with yours trees on it .

Our shadehouse is 70%, a light colour and north facing, with no shade from trees or anything. Quite bright enough in winter, in summer I even have plants growing below the bench. Don't get many flowers there, but they really need protecting in the heat.

Very jealous of this stand you have made, looks pretty damn perfect, just needs some trees on it!
With the shade cloth, I think it would depend on your climate and what type(s) of species your growing. I bought 50% but now I am starting to wish I got something a bit lighter (eg. 30%) as I have heaps of Banksia and they love the sun, but the Sygyzium are loving the little bit of shade and the slightly higher humidity I have unintentionally created. So I guess it depends on what your growing and where you are.
Cheers, I now have more ideas for when I go out and try and get something like your stand going..
