Hi guys, as i have no idea where to go with this one . Hope someone can help me out in creating a future style for this Melaluca,(snow in summer). The aerial layering is full with roots as showing in the picture. Since its cool and raining i have taken it down early this morning & potted it up. Not sure where & how much to cut back for now.
Growing horizontaly im thinking along the lines of a wind swept style, or maybe i can bend the trunk back on itself for more of an upright style.
Neberi is 14cm thich,tree 95cm tall. It is top heavey, needs triming but new growth is there already. What would you do . Thanks in advance.

14 cm in diameter????????????? are you sure thats not circumnfrence??

with that water bottle there it looks about 5-7cm not 14cm???? i can see a literati in there though mate

petra, you need to take off this lot where the red line is then let it grow out if you want an upright style.

thats where you will find a literati. if i presume correctly if you take of that hanging side it will back bud like crazy and give you more to work with

once you have more foliage to work with that will give you more styling oppurtunity.

hi i agree with above and they do bud back quick i have 1 as well and its growing so fast i also took off 2/3 of the roots as well regards

You could try Jamie's literati idea then use your great layering skills to get a couple more little trees out of this one. Just a thought..

would of thought some of our native ex, sperts would of applied.

i would of thought as well petra but i think they will pipe up if you are going the wrong way, i would take it as a compliment in the fact they probabyl think that it is going the right way

Just an up date on this one. Have lost the tree for what reason i do not know. it had few roots growing out of the pot & not knowingthat ( it was sitting amongst long grass since last season). When lifting the pot to clear around it i must have ripped the roots out from the ground. in a months time the tree was dead. i did a full prune back. Now finding the tree wont be coming back. Just need to know for sure if this is the reason i may have lost the tree since it was a areal layer anyway. Any ones appinion ill appreciate.

While watching Pup doing a demo this year I picked up a really valuable piece of advice. He said if it looks dead just leave it on your bench - it may come back to life. I have experienced this with 2 mels I had - one that I root pruned too heavily to fit it into a certain pot and another that had been languishing for at least a year. They are both linifolia and i am so happy to see the new buds. So if you still have it put it to the back and keep watering it.
