Hi,

I repotted a trident stump that I have to keep working on the base of the tree.

I am thinking broom or windswept for this one due to the little to no taper.

thoughts and ideas welcome

No taper but a lovely curve at the base which kind of compensates. I would go for an informal and spend a few years growing the trunk a little taller.A long branch on the left side would add to the flow of the trunk line. You really should cover the roots a bit to allow some of those surface roots to develop which they will do much more quickly if covered. I know there is a fashion for extreme taper in tridents but you can grow some lovely trees with out it.

I agree with Craig. If you cover those surface roots they will thicken and fuse, and that will be a very attractive aspect of the tree. From the shape of the tree, broom would not be recommended as they traditionally have a very straight trunk, and you have a very attractive curve you should make the most of. Taper is great, but we don't want all the tres the same, so follow the direction the tree is giving you.
Cheers

I like it :-)

I would develop the first left branch int a distinct branch, and then the complete top section would become a rounded canopy

Will work on the left branch as recommended and then worry about the top
