Here is a little Mel I picked up in a clearance sale when a nursery was moving. Think I payed $2 or something. Finally got around to hacking it up. This guy was treated really mean. We will see if I can keep it alive. Not to fussed either way.





blue glazed pot from japan I believe. I think it looks good.

Nice mate, it's got a good look to it already with branch setting and all can see it looking great on the future.

Nah I picked that pot up at a club meet cheap. The clay is japanese quality. You can feel the difference.

All in the finish mate. Yes the kind of clay and glaze's i haven't seen in chinese pots.

Thanks Ken and Hugh. The fun bit will be keeping it alive. I have a few tricks but I did remove a lot of root.

And Ant you can normally feel and see the difference. It's amazing plus the visual weight of the Japanese pots are normaly better. The Chinese seem clunky to me.

this tree will stay at it's current height. Develop the branches and enjoy it. I plan on having these smaller trees (I have a few) until I can't carry the big stuff!

I think you need to remove just a bit of the curve from the apical branch. Also, put it in a water tray or you could lose it. You have potted it correctly for its size but not for its breed... Melaleucas sit happier with wet feet, most especially if you have given it a hard root prune.

Thanks for the reply Mel. What I do with small trees is get a larger pot, in this case a 6" orchid pan, put some soil in the bottom, place the pot on that and then fill the pot up to just above the soil line in the bonsai pot. This give the tree alot of moisture. It thinks it's in a larger pot. The larger pot is then sitting in water and the whole lot is now in full shade for a week or two, or until it either grows or dies.. I do this with all of my really small stuff as I am not always able to water several times a day. Though most don't sit in water trays.I will post a pic of how it looks in a few days.

Good to see more shohin mels. I'm workin on a couple but with very young material so they're a few years off.

Mel's right. Stypheloides in particular seem to be extremely thirsty in my experience.

Hi Tee, haven't seen you at a meet for a while, how's the youngen?

My big styph has sat in water since I got it. This guy is sitting in water too. I will post a pic of the setup soon.

Yeah I've been really busy this summer. Youngen's 8 weeks off!

I should be there next week.
