This is an Apple tree which i have loved for 12 years since i purchased it from nursery stock. I grew it in a very large container for a further 4 years to get the trunk size up a little and also develop its Nebari. It flowers beautifully every year and usually gives 30-50 apples. Of course i cannot leave them on and normally leave between 3 or 7 apples. the do suffer from Gumosis but can be treated with copper sulphate successfully. This is a very rewarding tree.

Lovely, there's just enough movement in that trunk to give it great style. I do think I would prefer it in the centre of a round pot. It just seems slightly off centre to me. Possibly when it is in full growth one side is longer and the oval works better. Either way, very nice bonsai and I do love the fruit.

Hey Bodhi,
My apologies for missing your post! I don't know how I did.
We can grow Malus up here. My teacher calls them "Qld Cherry blossoms" because they are the clsoest thing to cherries that we can SUCCESSFULLY grow up ehre

I'm hoping to get a reasonably large one soon.

They may grow in Brisbane, but they do not do well in Mackay unforunately.

Hi Bodhi. I love crabapples and apples in general for when they are in flowers and also when they are in fruits and also when they drop all of their leaves. I have been saving the pictures of your crabapples every time you post them (hope you don't mind).

My sister here in Townsville is growing "tropical apples" and they have actually eaten the fruit. I have a slight suspicion though that you must have 2 trees for pollination. I might give it a try myself up the track.

It has been four years since i posted this tree and i have been using it this morning to play with lighting for my photography skills. The top was layered of in late 2010 as i wanted a tree on its own root system and the layer is progressing well. The tree had 78 fruits this year and i will now cut them off

and defoliate and prune this tree. Please enjoy the FRUITS of my labour, and a Merry Christmas from us all at Bodhidharma.

Beautiful tree and photos Bodhi!
Don't often see Apple Bonsai and this one is a treat!
All pics look good to me however i like background color blend on pic 3.
I too wonder about 3 tree in pot location.
You're the expert though!

Probably comes down to personal preference Boics. I like them off centre and the lower branch extended to cover the off centre look. I think it leaves room for a setting if you wanted to, you know a rock or a figurine, but these are not my aesthetic.
