Satsuki Azalea Question

Just a quick question,
What is the difference/s between a Satsuki Azalea and an Azalea?? Also what are recommended varieties for garden planting?

my understanding is satzuki are samller plants, smaller leaves and flowers and they flower earlier than other types of azalea

Satsuki lend themselves to pot culture. There are many varieties of azalea in Japan but satsuki is the prefered one for bonsai. They flower in november way after all the other azaleas have finished. If you want to plant azalea in the garden I would recommend kurume azalea. There are hundreds of varieties of satsuki take your pick. Some have very large flowers others small. One of the outstanding characteristics of the satsuki is that many forms throw more than one colour on the same plant.
