Diederik (AKA Bodhidharma) of
Bodhidharma Retreat and Bonsai Nursery is a firm believer in the philosophy that it is better to give than receive. With that in mind and his upcoming birthday (1st March) he will be generously giving away a high quality pre-bonsai to an AusBonsai member as an encouragement award.
The award will be based on the following values: -
Members experience, Humbleness, Respect, Enthusiasm and participation in all aspects of Ausbonsai.
The tree will be shipped all expenses paid to the winner (subject to Australian Quarantine laws) or can be collected from Bodhidharma Nursery.
The awardee will be required to post their progression of the tree as they train and put their mark on it. We understand that we cannot enforce this, however it should be an agreement of honour on the recipients behalf.
We hereby request nominations for the award based on the above criteria. If you would like to nominate someone or yourself, please post a reply in this forum, before 12noon EDST on 1st March, specifying the members name and in 50 words or less the reason/s for nomination.
This years tree is a Noble English Elm, collected (with permission) from 80 year old forest on private land. It stands 450mm high with a width of 150mm at the base. It is estimated to be 20 to 30 years old.

Diederik will be posting notification of the awardee in this forum on the afternoon of 1st March 2010.
Thanks and regards,
Steven

As we here in the West could not get the tree in being an Ulmus ( elm ) if we entered could we nominate some one to receive the tree.
As I see many young people here with the potential to take this stock further. Whom I would gladly nominate. Assuming I was to win
The Guys in Tassie would have a similar problem. There are some very good Artists that are restricted because of Quarantine laws.
I see this as a way to see that talent shown here.
What say Bohdi

Cheers Pup

my Nomination goes to Leigh Taafe,
he spends time running the virt comp, helps out where he can with questions, looks after us with online sales and is also now part of the national collection care team. i think he is doing very well to do all this plus try and promote our great art in his nursery
(i do know the irony that leigh probably has a whole heap of ground grown elms, my nomination is for the honour of it not the prizes)

My nomination goes to Brett he has done so much for Ausbonsai since its inception. Always willing to help and put in the time. He has done a lot of research.
On the Bonsai scene has a very good philosophy to Bonsai.
He is not afraid to say what he sees as the best approach even if it does ruffle a few feathers. His talent I have been privileged to see it blossom,. In the years I have been involved with Bonsai forums.
He like all young people was a brash young fellow, that would not take kindly to being told he was wrong. Even now I have to hold back at some of the things he says.
As I said he does not hold back.
I do not use the expression about suffering fools as I have had a hard enough life. Brett is an Honest young Australian talent that in my opinion desrves this award.
Cheers

Pup

Sorry People, i have been out watering and didn't realize Steven had posted. First of all, thank you A.B for collaborating with me in the formulation of this idea. if It wasn't for Steven this would not be possible

Secondly, this is as it reads, an encouragement award and in my mind encouragement is given to someone who is down or is having a hard time with their passion or does not have the access to good materials, or other reasons that is holding them back. Just somebody who needs a helping hand at the moment. It could be someone who is always thoughtful and helpful on the site and never negative. It can also be someone who willingly shares their knowledge to the best of their ability and you know that it is experience talking and not something that has been read off google.
Jamie, thanks for nominating Leigh but he is the person who is encouraging every one else and certainly doesn't need any himself. What he needs is a cold beer

Pup has got the idea, it takes humbleness to stop and think of someone else who is worthy and nominate them

and i think Pup has that in abundance. So go your hardest people and be thoughtful in your nomination. Once again thank you A.B for the opportunity to support the Bonsai community of Australia and give back some of what Bonsai has given to me .

I Second the nomination of Joel by Brett.
He is an up and coming light in the Australian Bonsai scene, and i think we will hear a lot of him ove rthe next 50 years
I think he has the commitment to forum here but also has the stuff to make worthy of the Award by Bodhi.
I also Second the nomination of Brett by Pup.
His commitment to the Forum here is without peer, and his commitment to Aussie Bonsai is un wavering. He gives by doing the hard research for all of us, and posts the results here for us all to benefit from. He is involved in the Gardens at Cowra as a Vollie
Good Onya Bodhi. For people like you, Leigh and Steven are going to push the yougsters of Oz to bigger and better things. Thanks
Ken
