All I know is it has very tiny leaves compared to others. The flowers are bright purple and arranged in bunches.

Bouganvilla - smarty pants

I bought one of these from Bunnings a few weeks ago. It is a dwarf variety - I got it because it just grabbed my eye. I like the multi bracts on it and the small leaves. Will look on my potting bench to see if I still have the tag.

Nope - from memory they had 2 - and I bought the one without the tag. If you can get to a Bunnings they may have one for you to get the variety. Suppose that doesn't help much, does it ?

It's a "smartypants". Also known as Hawaiian Torch.
They trim and put it in a decent pot and stand back
I can ahrdly keep up with mine. Great trees.

because i was fixing my car wen i noticed he had a large on a stone pot so i asked him and i got it

i was wondering why its growth was a bit unusual but thanks for clearing it up

Thanks Nathan and Dayne. Any reason why they are called "Smarty pants" which is kind of funny? Is there a botanical name for this boug?

I reckon they got the name because the breeder was called it for producing them. These are wild growers given they are suppose to be a dwarf. You can get them in almost all the same colours & variegates as regular bougies. they can easily make 6-8ft in a season once established, cut a bit off & shove it in the ground they grow. Thicken real quick 4" in under 2yrs, take a slaughter top & roots, dont drop branches like normal bougies can, in short they are fantastic. I would still go with medium to large sizes for bonsai.

i have seen small ones aswell, on the note of cuttings and digging. i have seen stumps that have been dug, all feeder roots cut off and then left for a couple of weeks bounce back and be awesome trees in a very short time. those ones were soaked in a B1 solution for a week. it worked wonders for the tree!

True jamie they are just as good for smaller size trees... maybe its just me being a size queen On digging etc i have always been lead to believe early summer for guaranteed success, tho othertimes are ok depending on location & after care. I am hanging out for next yr to get here, i have a large one of these in sydney to dig. The deal was to grow a replacement, which i am at present doing. Another untypical tree, 8"thick trunk with 3 stilt roots, 2' before entering the ground & only 3 branches.

B1? as in vegemite?

you can get B1 vitamin tablets in the natural section of the chemist.

all you do is mix 4-5 tablets in a few litres of water then stand the trees roots in it for so long
