ALLOCASSUARINA TORULOSA FROM SCRATCH

FINALLY FOUND SOME!!!
I have 3 here that i guess to be 2 year olds. 3 at the most. I will start with what i think is the most difficult. One on the right for its reverse taper. I will heavily wire the trunk to try and get a tad more bend in that first kink. 2 wraps of 4mm should do it. A 2mm wire for the new leader to flow through the movement. Down at the base where the reverse taper occurs, i will choke it with the 4mm wire's so as to swell the reverse out. Here i will also show you how to cull the roots, in order to form a kick arse nebari later! I cut half the root ball off and then use my tradie's scribe to comb out and seperate the roots. I dont use chop sticks any more. YEP you heard right! For the kind of root work i do, they tend to bruise crush and break way too many roots for my liking. My scribe is fine , pointy and sharp. yes it can scratch and pierce all of what encourages more root ramification. Not the norm that we are taught, is it now. Once root ball is sorted and i can see in there,I then cut the double taps off, only to leave the roots in the highest position possible. This will 1) create a more radial root spread and 2) help pull the reverse taper out from the bottom end. Then planted into a short but wider pot on a leaning angle to set up a very sexy trunk line. The mix is open; equal parts diatamite medium, aussie potting mix and scoria 5-7mm, sitting on a drainge layer of Diatamite large. Sponge??? NO NO NO dont use a sponge    Just kidding. Just for good measure a good fist full of better grow fert pellets have been sprinkled at various layers. The tree has gone into my post trauma area and will be flooded ( watered morning and evening) for the first few days and then depending what weather is doing. if cooling back off to once a day or if warmer continue for up to a week or so.The tree is now ready to grow on. Next year the roots will get a tease and spread again and then placed in a poly box for a 2 year stint... till then my friends ;) :D 8-)

OK while i'm at it, i'm gonna run this tube stock 1yr old side by side with this one. The biggest difference here is the tube stock has a single tap root and is more pliable for bending. Roots again the same treatment, tap off to highest point where we have a few roots circulating. The choke method is on again. Something that wasnt mentioned earlier and i must say i'm surprised the cosmeticians didn't pick up on it. :o The choke will also promote more root output. A bit like layering when ya not layering so to speak. So chances are if you have the choke buried you will get more roots below and above. Giving you more choices for your nebari or more chance to iron out the reverse taper. Having said all that, the nebari is now a no brainer! 8-) The most significant advantage with this tube stock is the first 100mm of movement! The rest i dont give 2 hoots about right now. A new leader will be chosen and chopped back to in future. 1 wrap of 2mm wire and i use a small bent pointy nose plier to grip the coil prior, while i wrap the next, so as to not damage and strees this little fella more than need be. Again my scribe comes in handy! Especially when i wire cassa's and pines it helps me take needles out of harms way. ;) Best 10 bucks i ever spent on bonsai. The size pot i am using is relevent to the size of the material. I want to water and feed freely without drowning or getting caught up. So once again i work with a drainage layer ;) , mound up my soil again with my scribe to help me splay the roots out before i bury. Yes more pellets in the layers. And E' cu avisto ce' bella! Go and find this kind of snakin movement in the first 100mm of advanced stock  I tell ya now; far and few between! Once again my dear friends i look forward to chewin this one with ya in a few years.

Nice work Ant :D :D There is volumes to be said for extreme and radical work to be done now for massive returns later ,looking forward for pinnacle perfect results .I also like Alpine ripped one of the Cassaurina out of the ground and is sitting in a pot of diatomite which is in a bucket which also has been full of water (even after constant emptying)the tree is growing well don't think it is a Torulosa though.
Cheers :D
Tony
