have wondered about carving shari into port jack fig to cover a 1 inch branch i removed can this be done to improve possible front
also guys an gals want to purchase dremel but not sure which to obtain most of my bonsai shohin upto 500mm trees

i try and avoid carving on figs at all costs. if you use a knob cutter or the likes to cut a concave cut to where the branch was it will heal nicely and leave a bit of a feature, carving on figs isnt the best option although i have seen some that look good, but it is a rare occasion.

not quite sure bout the soccer ball fig mate i make so many posts its hard to keep up with out reading the whole thread sometimes

I thanked teacher and practice what I had been taught ........................................................... right up to day teacher come to my unworthy house and carved out trunk of my Ficus!!!!!
Bloody hard yakka keeping half the trunk on a Fig from rotting let me tell you. much better ways to cover a large unsightly wound on any softwood tree and figs are the easiest because they grow so damn fast. Some I have used include fertiliser, periodic stripping the bark from around the wound and grafting.

Hi Micheal...the guys are right..a one inch scar on a healthy ficus will grow over pretty quickly, and if you end up at a tool store,ask to see their range of DIE GRINDERS, as Dremel is a just a brand name of die grinders ....Dog.
