River Red Pics For Shibui: Better Late Than Never...

Gday folks!
I was recently asked by Shibui (Neil) if I could contribute photos of River Red Gums in the wild, as he was to present a talk at the 7th Oz Native Bonsai show in Canberra (
see his thread here). I looked through my archives and found that the bulk of my River Red photos were not of sufficient quality for such a talk, so I went out to Mill Park to take more. These photos were to be sent to Neil so that he could pick and choose, but technical difficulties on both ends meant that this never happened

.
Anyway, there are some good ones, so I thought I should share...

Thanks for sharing these pictures with us Bri. The first tree is very dramatic and inspiring as are the other trees. It makes me reflect on why we 'do' bonsai, perhaps the desire to emulate that in pot culture.

Hi Ash
I agree that it would be good to have something along these lines but rather than having yet another sub forum, another alternative might be to have a thread like IBC does whihc is called "Trees in nature"
I forget how many pages it is now up to, but lets say heaps and it is a really inspirational page to look at
Fly - your post would be a goodun to kick it off with (maybe simply with a change of title?)
Regards
Steve

I know those trees pretty well (used to drive past there a lot when i lived in Melb).
There are some awesome Reds in the paddocks along Plenty/ Epping rd, on the way to Mernda and Whittlsea that are beleived to be over 1000 years old.
My favourite time of the year has to be when i go fishing on the Murray near Howlong. Sometimes i forget about the fishing and go tree watching!

Gday folks!
Glad you like the Eucs! If you wish to read more about the Bonsai styling considerations of the River Red,
check out Shibui's thread here.
Thanks.
