i think these trees are natives can someone plz ID these trees for me the lady is removing them for a fence in 2 weeks so i need it urgent the trunks are the size of my thigh.

i was wondering it someone can tell me is autumn okaiz to collect natives?

i have some of those top ones on my property, no idea what they are though...

callistimon the top ( dunno what variety), and the second look like a Grevillea but a bit hard to to ell from the pics as out of focus
I woudl try to collect them if they are being dug up anyway

CHEERS KEN i thought that top is a callistimon but silver foilage i dont think its a grevillea i have one already this tree's leaves are like really small and pointy

have u had any experience digging natives in autumn???

like do i need native mix or will it go good with 50/50 daitomite and premium potting mix?

This is my first native

since everyone is promoting it ill give it a go

I haven't had much experience as most of mine are propagated from the start however info from others seems to indicate that Autumn is a good time for collecting many natives.
Current wisdom is to cut back hard. Cut back to remove most if not all foliage. Callistemons will shoot well from bare trunks. Callistemon can also tolerate most of the soil removed from the roots.
Advice is also to soak the roots in water, possibly with some seaweed or plant starter before potting up.

Most natives do not mind what mix you use. Just need to take care with banksias and maybe grevillea and hakeas which are sensitive to phosphate levels that may be present in general potting mix. I'd advise using your normal mix.

Difficult to tell precisely what the other plants are from your pics but as Ken says, what have you got to loose? If they don't survive you will still have what you've got now (no native bonsai) but if they survive......

Make sure you sift out the fine material from the mix, that is crucial, you should leave the roots alone for 2 seasons after collecting.

1st one definitely looks like a Callistemon, 2nd is most likely a Melaleuca, is this a close up of foliage from the 4th pic? The 3rd is a bit blurry but looks like Grevillea 'Canberra', short needle like leaves?

The Callistemon & Melaleuca should move ok. As shibui has said, give them a good soak for atleast a few hours in bucket of seasol, or if you dont have use some vegemite dissolved in the water. The grevillea is highly unlikely to survive a transplant, I have attempted many over the years without success except for a robusta. But give it a go & let us know how you get on.

All you can lose is a few hours work digging them out and you may end up with some great new trees. Good luck with the dig. Your standard soil mix should be fine, the biggest thing I have learnt over the years with natives is how much they resent any sort of drying out, free draining mix & water water water.

The third shrub could be a lemon scented tea tree or leptospermum petersonii ? you could check by crushing the foliage and smelling it.

I decided to collect the middle one took me 2 hrs and alot of sweat since its all hard clay and no room between the trees

i noticed its bark is really papery does that mean its a paperbark i thought it was a bottlebrush but when i took it home n reduce all the foilage it was like paper

so can someone tell me i will post photos later

that middle one is not a bottle brush the foliage is wrong, it looks more like a mel to me which would explain the bark being papery too

I see a Callistemon viminalis and a Leptospermum petersonii (like Craig said). That would be my guess without better photos.

Keep it well waterd of the next few weeks with Seasol ( do not let it stay too we tho), and out of direct sun till it shows signs of definite new growth.

Well after having a long bonsai talk with eddie off to collect my tree with my friend who is learning about bonsai and yamadori hahhaha
and what a great tree to dig up on ur first collection
after 2and a hlaf hrs in the hot sun and 3 bottles of water after i left it for 4 hrs in seasol and potted it up thankfully it fit perfectly into the container or i would of had to drive to bunnings to buy wood.
