I realised that quite a few people have just shown their collected firethorns. Could you please let me know if it is still a ok to collect them now for QLD?

ive never even seen one growing in qld except as bonsai if you have found one your really lucky its on my next tree list

They are ever greens kev, should not be a problem from next month to early- mid spring.

My advice - Watch out for the thorns. Those buggres relly do bite hard. Good luck

Thanks for your advice Antt and Shibui. Dayne, I saw a big tree (3x2m bush) in the garden of a house in Ipswhich near my work. It is full of orange fruits and look real nice to me but appears to be weeds for this garden. I'll drop by one day to ask the owner to see if they still want it
The one I am collecting is actually a pre-bonsai that is left neglected by my uncle. It grew out of control and 90% of the roots now are out of the pot and into the ground. He sai it has been that way over 10 years. It has great trunk movements. I'll post some pics when I go and dig it up.

Hey Kvan your a bit warmer up there than me in Winter but I collected firethorn at various times of the year to experiment with this and although all survived I found the best recovery was in late spring. This rings true with the advice I was given of just after flowering.
You can dig now if you want but I believe late spring will give you better results even up where you are.

I will wait till late spring for the big one but the small ones has to be dug up this week. I hope it will survive !
