Hi Guys

I styled this little Scotts Pine a few days ago but which pot is the right one.

Please any ideas welcome and a vert if you feel up to it.

Nice work Skippy. I like this style. My first thought is a nice unglazed brown shohin pot. High quality yet fairly simple.

Second thought is a freeform pot that enables a wider pot to take in the sweeping angle and branches?

Nice work skip i missed this one. I would love to help with a pot.Though i am a little confused as to where you're goin to push that apex eventually. right or left?
I feel like it will need a rectactangle with rounded corners and concave sides. oval with a rim and concave sides will work to. i think if the tree should be more asymetric one way or the other as to finalise a pot shape and planting, but im guessing you are still dealing with horticulture in the current guise.

Ok, to make it easier, here are a few pots to choose from.

Hi Skippy, I feel that with a scotty the bark remains fairly smooth and this would make me reluctant to use a pot with a rough texture. (a shame coz you have some really nice ones there) I think the style of the tree is best suited to an oval pot.
Probably the simplest of the pots is the best,
my choice is #8

Personally, I'd put it in an unglazed pot, probably rectangle. Not particularly deep.
That's just my opinion

like i said i like the round drum pot for this pine, i think it works. i will get a rectangle one in there aswell

G,day Skippy after looking at the virts that Jamie has done I see this tree in either of the ones you have as numbered,

As 3==5==or 9, all would suit this tree.

Just my opinion as looking at the virts, it is a semi cascade and not a slanting tree.

You have a good point there Pup. I was wondering how to incorparate the wide sweeping of the tree.
I wanted to see it in something like this to compare though so a quick virt. Maybe a bit more rectangular. Fancy feet.

I'd try Pot 5.... or look for a pot at Leong's that's a soft brown-grey clay colour. Doug just got an oblong pot, a Japanese matt finish with a mottled grey/brown feel without actually being speckled. Tied in with the cedar trunk colour very nicely and set off the tree. Your tree has a wonderful nebari and is quite strong and graceful but the pot can't be too decorative to overwhelm it.
