I am going to Sydney next Friday and intend to fly down on the Friday morning, i have work to do that will ocupy me up until about 3pm. Then i intend to go and hire a van of some description and do a round of the nurseries in Sydney on Saturday and Sunday and start driving home on Sunday afternoon or Monday depending on how i go at the nurseries.
I am going to stop at Ray Nesci's, thats a given! I am also going to stop at Bonsai Southside. There are several more down there that i am aware of but can you local Sydneysiders give me the lowdown on the nurseries to either go to or avoid please. As i only have a short time there, time is of the essence. I havent been to any nurseries down that way for a very long time and am looking forward to it very much.

I guess you mean Bonsai south when you say Bonsai Southside see here http://www.bonsaisouth.com.au/cms/
This and Ray's are very good choices. Bonsai Enviroment being not that far from Ray's is always worth a look especaily if you are after a pot. http://bonsainet.com.au/nursery/nursery.htm
If you are short of time I would not bother with any other. They are 3 times the price and lower in quality.

Thanks Ant, i amreally looking forward to it. I havent been to the nurseries in Sydney for a long time ( 18 years or thereabouts) so i am really looking forward to it. Also looking forward to getting away by myself for a few days even if it is just driving! Work is driving me nuts at te moment, the downturn seems to have avoided us! (thankfully)

Well i have returned and all the better for the experience. I had a great time, visited Steven (Ausbonsai) on Friday afternoon and was fortunate enough to have been given a tour of his beautifull Japanese garden and shared some time together chatting about our shared passion. I was made to feel welcome and really enjoyed the time spent there. I then headed out towards Bonsai south (i will do another thread on this one) and found a motel at Cronulla to stay for the night. Saturday i started at Bonsai south, then went to Ray Nesci's and followed that with a trip out to Bonsai Environment. Finished there at about 4.30 ish and headed north to Newcastle where i hooked up with Penny (mudlark). After a night of chatting and getting to know each other, i attempted to make a pot under Penny's expert guidance. Well i dont think it would have turned out so good if Penny didnt intervene! Talk about forming good friendships within this hobby of ours, wow, its great. On Sunday Penny organized for us to go and see two private collections owned by members of the local club. Both collections were very high quality and large in size. The first collection was huge and owned by a lovely gentleman and an equally lovely and understanding wife. I could have spent a lot longer with them but Penny being the good host and making sure i made it to see the second collection as well as getting me back to Sydney in time to catch my flight. The second collection was smaller in number but just as good in quality. The trees were largely made up of collected material and turned into bonsai in a short time frame. I witnessed the trees with drink bottles hanging from them here and if you thought that it was funny when Penny posted them, think again. That is the best method for producing airial roots i have ever seen! Great work and very innovative. I enjoyed the company and appreciated my new friends time very much. It was pretty much straight from there to the airport and home. I had a great time, made some new friends, and can hardly wait to do it all again.

Glad the trip went well Peter can't wait to see the pictures. I would also be intrested in what you think Of the nurseries compared to the ones you have?

Some are better some are worse mate, but thats the beauty of bonsai, a future specimen could be lurking in the background at any old nursery....

Thanks Aaron. I just might do that some day, i would love to see Tassie. From what i have been told, it is very beautiful.
