I have had this for a while, its gone from pencil thick to about 3 inches.
My idea for this tree is to have a semi flat top withing its weeping style. I dont think too much weeping is the right look.
The last image is where I think the front is. It gives the most movement, the most depth having the top most branches as an apex with the lower ones filling out the back. I dont think any other angle gives the same feel. The trunk branch facing the viewer I think is at the right hight, just not in the right position. Being a vigous grower getting another branch in the right spot and at similar height wont be hard.
The second last image is the second proposed front, I just think it doesnt show the movement of the trunk. There are other issues with this front but I wont go into them. Its mostly branches facing wrong directions ect.
Once I have the front firmly worked out I'll wire properly, instead of the current mock up.

nice asus it looks like it has put on some good growth and i cant tell where the graft is?

the weeping branches are the graft. Its covered the graft well and no bulge, I think the number of trunk growths has helped it thicken properly.

did you graft these branches on? if so you gave done well, i think that the last pic shows good movement and line, possibly a option for front?

well well well lookie what we got here . I'm not there in person (lucky for you ) so i can only go from the photo. I really like the last shot. If this were my tree ( I know its not ) that is the front !!! shocked again i'm even doin a virt for you.

I didnt graft the branches, I won the tree in a give away raffle.

No, so they will need to be wired into a weep then cut back

personally i would rather cut off the top growths and try to induce more lateral secondary growth.

Currently yes its what I am doing. There is one branch I didnt get to cut off that still there that I have tried to pull down, but I think it will go.

Im assuming it has been grafted so it could have the growth on top of the trunk. I know you won it so you dont know why. But i imagine it would be strong on its own roots. Have you considered taking any cuttings? Staking up prostrate plants can often develop nicely flowing feminine trunks. Just a thought.

I stick the odd off cut in soil but nothing really out of my way yet. I know nurserymen have grafted weeping Swamps, but they are big versions this one is bearly 40cm tall.

An interesting and challenging subject Ben. I'll be interested to see where you go with it.
