juniper restyle to shohin

hi guys, i purchased a juniper for australia bonsai grower a couple of months back, it looked quite good to work with and once i got home i found a mass of branches right on top and right down low, not much inbetween, so i styled away and wasnt happy with it, at all, so it sat there for a fair while regaining some strength it never missed a beat. i was going to air layer the top off but it is a long process for a piece of material that wasnt spectacular, the off cut will go into some medium to see how it goes, i dont think it will strike though.

so this is it before i did anything, looked promising.

after the initia (poor) styling, just not happy with it.

so as i said it sat there for a while and looking at it this morning i seen a shohin in it. i dont know if it will ever be the greatest display of juniper bonsai, but it might become something half decent in years to come. it needs a slight angle adjustment and i need some heavier wire to bring the main trunk up some more. i also want to change the angle it is exiting the soil slightly so it doesnt seem as stright up and down, it isnt but it is only a few degrees, it needs to be more.

please excuse a couple ofthe poor quality photos. im waiting to get my decent camera back instead of using this phone camera.

it just goes to show you dont have to always use a whole tree when the reall tree within is a small one, pup has many fine examples of this aswell.

thank you pup, i hope it does develop nicley :D the pot for now is overside and will need changing eventually to something smaller and more suited, the rootball has to be reduced more, i didnt want to remove to much though, luckly enough it had a nice feeder system quite close in to the trunk :D

i need my cameral back to get a close up of the deadwood, it still needs more refinement to but i am reasonably happy with where it is going, lime sulphur will be applied soon in a couple of weeks when the cambium seals over itself and the wood has dried some.

thanks mitch :D

i will definately update the tree, i have some plans for it now after looking at it some more, but they need to wait for it to grow out some more ;)

i am thinking along these lines
Jsrestylevirt1.jpg
the colour of the virt is actually the colour of the foliage, the picture light and other factors make it look a dull colour.

thanks guys :D muchly appreciated :D

less is definately more in some instances, its always good to look for a smaller tree when a larger one doesnt work ;)

dimensions of the tree now are- 50mm root spread, 35mm trunk above roots, stands approximatel 150mm tall at the moment, when i get it up to where i want probably more like 200mm :D

pot will probably be similar to that one i bought of you a while back nath, not sure yet if a little round one will work or if it needs something a little rustic. the one its in now is just pro term :D
