ive been researching for some tools lately and noticed i should be getting japanese and not chinese ones, but im having problems in what i should be getting

i have a bougy, chinese elm and a satsuki, id like some feedback on what type of tools i should be aquiring to attend to these bonsai's and where is a good place to purchase? i have been ebay goggling and found some online sites in oz too

Talk to Leigh Taafe. If you click on the Members toggle top right, then on the L tab, his is the first name that comes up. You can send him a personal message through control panel.

He sold me some that are good quality, not too expensive. He has Ledanta Bonsai

There are two Bonsai Nurseries in the Metro area both stock and sell Chinese and Japanese tools at very good Prices.

Japanese tools are generally know to be of higher quality than the chinese. They are also usually quite a lot more expensive.

The most important thing to consider is what type of person are you when it comes to caring for your tools? If you are one to leave your tools lying around outside, forgetting about them, drop them, letting them get covered in dirt and crap and not cleaning them (like me!)..then I dont think it's a good idea to go out and spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on tools.

If you are one to take good care of your tools, keep them well oiled, sharp and in a case, then I'd recommend getting a good set of tools..

Clean and sharp tools should be part of your Bonsai regime. Also they cause less trauma to the plant and less accidents to the user.

One of my foibles on tools and the use of them.

if you have a bougey satsuki and a elm id get a long handled long nosed leaf trimmers and a pair of concave knob cutters and may be a branch cutter if not a sharp pair of general secatiers allso an old fork bent for a root rake and a small pair of long nose pliers for wire

thanks everyone for ur replys. i have looked into other posts and done some research but theres so much out there i was looking for some personal judgement particularly towards the trees i have. ill keep looking and talk to the people you have suggested and make my big decisions
