Hey Minh,
Wow! Great tree, that is a nice piece of material, it must be a pretty old azalea. Its not easy to find stuff that big (not here anyway). Nebari, BIG base of the trunk, taper and a spread of branches all around. It will be a great bonsai in no time. Have to start reducing the root ball after flowering. Well done!!
Cheers, thanks for showing, please add some more pics as it starts to fill in and flowers etc
Neal.

Have you considered shortening it? I can visualise the effect it will have with a lot more foliage and flowers on that framework but the height is distracting from the beauty and character of the trunk. Naturally it depends on the size of the flowers but I feel condensing it would strengthen the visual impact of the trunk. It's going to be a nice tree.

Hmmm, increased taper, just a short stout trunk with a dome of foliage and flowers sitting on top as the japanese do. If it was a satsuki then that would definitely be a chance but with the large leaves and probably (i'm guessing) large flowers and coarse growth/longer internodes that this one may have then not sure???

yes i was going to reduce it to the height of the branch facing forward because there is an ugly scar on the top part of the trunk line from wire
thanks Mel i was just pondering for a while and was going to ask after so u agree that it should be shorter?
i wanted to just leave it since i tend to shorten all my trees .I really wanted a tall one hahahha aww well
cheers minh
