These 2 trees were purchased from Costa's treeland between Myrtleford and Yackadanda prior to the 2008 Beechworth fires witch claimed most of their trees, fortunately they saved themselves the house and shedding . Originally the trees were 5 years old and around 1.8m high , i saved them down to around 800-900mm and removed the side branches completely from the tripple trunk and cut back the branches on the single tree . 2 methods of training the shoots and branches were employed . the tree was held with fishing line attached to the older branches and the tripple trunk , yes as you can see i used my pegs again .While these tree are quite robust the new shoots are very fragile and spring pegs do the job without and chance of knocking the shoot off. As the grow out i add another peg to maintain the direction of the shoot . In 2009 i removed the stubs on the single tree and placed pegs as per the triple tree. Cheers

These are the pics of the tree today after wiring in the bonsai method i hate the thought of wasting so much time on wiring, but the result is always good .Basically 2 years in training from naked trunks and the result is a good one .Cheers Alpineart

I like that single trunk one a lot, I was looking at these in the nursery a while back, do they bud well along the trunk when cut back then?, I got some sequia seeds from ripoffbay but they never sprouted.
I sure would like something like that in my collection, I have a National Geographic that has a story of these trees in it and have wanted one ever since I read about them, the mother of all trees.

The single trunk is absolutly stunning. If only I have 5 of these to train as a group/forest

Hi Ozzy , Redwoods backbud continuously simple select which shoot to keep and rub the rest off. New shoots are very fragile so i use the pegs to direct the growth until the second season as i knock to many new shoots off when attempting to wire them . I have around 2 dozen 2-3 year old starters which will go in the ground very soon . Seeds are very rare to strike possibly 1 in 10 thousand will strike according to David , cuttings and layers are possible .Cheers

I sent quite a few to QLD last year for a forest groups , however i lost the contact details to the buyers . Sure would like to know how they are going . Seeds collected from a single trunk tree will only grow a single trunk tree , while seed collected from a multi trunked tree will only grow multi's .The multi's have an ugly tuber type swelling above the ground and continue to sucker up . To alleviate this you need to slice the bark and cambium off and allow the bark to heal over , success is not always achieved but i have had good results .Cheers

Hi Nathan , another couple of seasons to grow out and it should be a real stunner . I will let you know if i decide to part with a couple .Cheers

They both look great , very much like the natural redwoods in the wild.

is there any plan to grow the lower branches out a little more? i like it how it is but could also see an extra bit of width on it
