This ihad to do after playing with the Pheonix grafted Trident this morning .Same deal using multi whips .

Firstly i carved grooves into the rock for the root placement .

Hand picking the seedlings with the bent trunks {purpose trained } i gathered numerous whips and tied some string around the base .

Position the trunks into the desired position and carefully place the selected roots into the grooves. Secure with string around the base and rock .Using more whips i again place them using the bends to their advantage and wrap again with string .Now all you have to do is seperate the finer roots and insert the second set of main roots into the remaining grooves and again tie off with string . repeat again if necessary .Then wrap very securely around the entire root mass and rock base .

That's a great Idea Alpine. Do you usually do bare root work at this time of year with tridents or is it just for saplings that can take it?

With the trainer secured to the rock i then removed the first string that held the bundle of whips together and attached another string combining all the trunks as one .Using the profile of the purpose bent whips i then combine them and wrap again with string at the set angle to create the first bend ,

repeat for the 2nd and 3rd as required all the way to the fork and apex With the trainer wired and shaped i potted it up into a large pot ,attached a Split pot for making "root over rock"

however not quite big enough so i used a piece of shade cloth and stitched it together wire fine wire works as good as the real thing ..And there you have it 4hours of fun in the sun .Cheers and happy Bonsai.Alpinart

Hi Bretts seedlings can handle it if you work in a wet enviroment .I usually move them from the ground and straight into a bath and work from there . Been doing a few for about 6 weeks now they can be removed and placed back into the ground without any setback as long as they dont dry out .Cheers
