Hi Yadibrar, and welcome to Ausbonsai!

I think it might help if you told us what species it is.

Yes the leaves looks like those of Mulberies. I think what you are looking for is under the soil line. Mulberies take roots readily and are hard to kill. Just reveal more till you see the root line then decide where to chop.

welcome to the forum mate :D i think you might be our first person from India to join! :D

as for your tree unless you are going for a forest/clump i would be removing those suckers, as Kvan has said remove the top soil to find the root spread, that way you can get all the suckers out at the base and wont have probs with them popping back up! once that is done i beleive you will have to get it growing strongly, there isnt much in the way of workable branches, so you need to get it growing strong, then we can look at styling.

im not sure how hard the wood are on these but that dead wood will need a bit of clean up and then a hardener will help stop it from rotting out :D

i actually think it may be celtis too... was this tree tagged when you got it?

I don't think so - fruit are rather different. Mulberries are the trees silkworms live in.

cool, definate on the ID then :D (just for clarification celtis is commonly know as hackberry)

if this was collected in that state with little or no soil and feeders, then i would be waiting a long time before doing anything, it would be best to let it get strong and have lots of shoots as this is what you will be working with... right now there isnt really anything to work with so it is a game of patience right now my friend!!
