Hi there crazy kids!!!

I am about to finish my Certificate II in General Horticulture from TAFE and will enrol into Cert III asap to get my trade qualification. What I would like to ask is , (especially those who have worked in retail / wholesale nurseries), in order to be more marketable to the aforementioned area / industry, and short of going to uni for a degree (which I think would be overkill in my case), are there any other short / long courses / accreditations one can do? First Aid? Green Card for OH & S etc etc?? Any suggestions you may have no matter how insignificant you think they might be would be greatly appreciated. The course might go for 1 day, 1 month or 2 years!!! Joel, this sounds like your area mate. :ugeek:

First Aid is never useless, how about Small Business, or management if you have ambitions?

Definitely get your green card and consider getting an AQF3 license to spray pesticides. Alternatively, inquire at TAFE about their version. Some campus offer the exact same course but charge $10 instead of the $320 or so. Chemspray also offer a course. This allows you to use these chemicals on properties besides your own and supervise other sprayers.

When marketing yourself, it is also worth mentioning that you are a regularly contributing and respected member of Ausbonsai.

Cert 3 gets interesting. In winter, you have to i.d. several trees and vines that are deciduous!

Good luck with the job hunt.

If only our TAFE did more courses than OHMS. You would think being a farming community we would have a hort course. Oh well guess I can always keep reading
I would love to do a course on Fertliser at the moment :!:

Funny you should mention fertilisers Brett. I am told this is not even covered as a module in Cert III. Go figure that one out!!
