Hey guys,

where can I buy moreton bay figs in Melbourne? Having a very hard time
finding figs of any type really!

it's not really for a bonsai so to speak!

what are you after moreton bay are a bit big leaved for bonsai theres much better ones give us a specific idea on what you want and well help you track it down

ok, it's for a very large bonsai type thing in my backyard as we are planning a tropical style. I wanted to make some thing that was eye pleasing but still had the full use of a tree for shade.

The fig will not be planted in the ground

Plenty of moreton bay figs in the gardens around the city. They strike quite easily from cuttings, even quite large ones. Might be quicker than continuing the search. Or visit Bodhi or another bonsai nursery. Most have some figs available.

Sorry for talking in riddles.

As i said in the post above. Its for a very large bonsai style type thing as the fig will not be planted in the ground and i want to create a and eye pleasing tree for my backyard.

I might get some cuttings from the city not to sure if the council will be happy with that.

Does anyone know of any figs trees within the northern suburbs or Melbourne where I can take a large cutting?

Just remember if it's in a pot it needs repotting no matter how big it is so be carefull not to go to big

I'm sorry if Iam still talking riddles. As I said above after shibui post I explained what I was after and what I was trying to do.

My last post was just a question on if there were any fig trees located within the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Just didn't want to have to travel to the city that's all

I've done a Loy of looking on the web and have found that the
moreton bay is the one that has been mosted used with Victoria.

O.K fish, we might have a communication problem here because of language difficulties? As Shibui said there are plenty around so firstly, identify what a moreton Bay looks like, they are very easily identifiable, keep your eye out as you are getting around the city. When you see one snap a couple of small off branches off and take them home, stick them into some hormone powder and plant them out in a protected area. Late winter through to early summer is best for this Cheers

I am assuming you want to grow a fig as a large trained tub plant ? I reckon the beast option would be to check out some of the advanced tree nurseries around vic there are plenty of the and I am sure you could pick up some thing pretty substantial.
