A little unpredictable, but they do bud back but the loaction is species specific from my observations. Good luck with them.

Hi Noah,
Have not cut cherry hard so do not actually know but I would expect it to react more like maple than elm.
Cherry is susceptible to gummosis which enters through wounds so cuts should probably be sealed as soon as possible.
Most flowering cherries will have been grafted so you will need to allow for this when cutting back. Experience is that most cherries are grafted rather higher than many fruit trees. Weeping ones are obviously grafted on tall rootstocks.
Good luck with this project. Its a good thing some of those trees are a bit big or there would be nothing left on that new place

The ones i plan to collect are all self seedling growing down near the creek with some movement not the standard that you usually find as garden trees. My neighbour has some 50 year old ones next door so maybe they orginally came from that tree?? Anyway just another project to attend to , I have finished the vege garden too, thankyou for having the Tah Mahal of chook pens/ vege gardens i have been kept busy :x :x :)

Hi Noah young sapling cherries should prune easily but once they get old it could be a problem with die back.
