Just trying to ID this little thing that i dug up on Friday. I'm thinking it may be a Flowering Plum (Prunus something), but am unsure. Can anyone help me out?

crepe mrytle mate

Leaves look like crepe Myrtle, Bark doesnt.

Most Crepe leaves are globular, whereas these are more elongated like a Prunus. The bark is not smooth like a crepe either.
I came accross a guy who has just purchased a property with hundreds of them, and he is going to doze them all. So i took the opportunity to relocate two of them. The one in picture has nice trunk lines and i may bonsai it. The other has a nice low, fat trunk appx 4 inches high, 3 inches in diameter. Visualising now..............

Are there Prunus with entire (smooth)leaf margins?

Got some info that may be handy.
The place used to be a winery, and these plants were in rows, irrigated etc. There are hundreds of mature Cherry Trees that are going to be dozed aswell.
Still, that doesn't help with the I.D. It's driving me nuts!

How big are these plants? Trees or shrubs? Leaf colour, shape and bark looks a lot like blueberry. They may have had a crop of blueberries as well as grapes?? Blueberry shrubs can grow to 2m + tall

You got in right Shibui its a blueberry for sure, they make nice bonsai I have seen some really good ones on IBC forum.

They were all under 1.5m in height, only because it seems they were cut off at just above ground level and the current height is the regrowth.
Either way, what is the common thought on making this into bonsai?

There you go mate, good one save more i say! they have gorgeous autumn colour!

If i had more room i'd take a score of them, not just the two that i got.
I'll work on the notion that they are Blueberries until told otherwise. Thanks for your help guys.

Hi Josh, grab as many as you can even if you don't use them for bonsai the berries are fantastic, I work at a property in Olinda with 5 acres of them and gorge myself on them all summer then stick heqps in the freezer in march.

Blueberry is a wet woodland plant. it prefers damp, acidic soils so keep up the water and maybe start off with a deeper pot. Maybe a little peat in the potting mix?? Craig has it right. The berries are delicious - ripen over quite a long season in summer.

Potted and gave a semi prune to get it through winter. Will see what spring brings! It is a nice size - appx 1.5 - 2 inches at the bottom of the trunk with a nice base, and appx 10 - 12 inches to the right hand leader.
This will potentially be the front, and have left myself with a couple of options of future styling.
My thoughts so far are to twist it back towards the centre of the tree, at either the first short stub on the right (compact size tree), or further up the tree with the first branch coming inwards for a larger tree.
