Hi all,
Here is a Japanese White Pine I have been giving a little tidy up to over the last few weeks. I have managed to correct a few things that really bothered me about the tree and I think I have improved the tree a fair bit in the process. I wouldn't mind it if the apex of the tree looked a little more rounded than it currently does and there ate still some spaces that need filling.

Any coments or suggestions are more than welcome.
Alas, this tree belongs to sombody else, so my playtime is limited to a touch up now and then, but it is enjoyable.

Lovely tree Moj, maybe you wouldnt mind sharing your routine on this tree or what your friends routine is to develop such a nice tree.

Hi Mojo, theres a couple of things which really jumped out at me instantly. The first branch on the left is too strong, I reckon the first major branch should be the first one on the right as it is sitting on the outside of a curve and above the widest point of the root base. It also seems to me that the back of the tree is carrying too much foliage higher up in the tree. The second branch on the left could be bought forward a bit to give it more prominence. before you do anything wire every branch and twig.
Thats one very nice tree would love to work on it with you one day. I am sure you will get lots of advice for this one.

I would keep the first branch on the left but reduce its volume and at grow the right hand branch just a little longer. Quite often you see Japanese trees with a very small branch low down on the tree. although the virt your posted does look pretty good Psymo.

i agree with craig.

the first thing that comes up to me is, "is the left first branch neccessary?"

with or without the branch. it is still outstanding.
