Chinese Elm advise please

I felled a massive ch. elm on a property last summer, over 100 years old. There are regrowth shoots on it now which are as thick as the fat end of a cue stick at their base with a lovely taper. I'd like to take them right at the stump - can I cut them, dip in rootex & pot up with success? The owners want the tree removed so layering etc is not an option. The shoots are about 4' long so would I cut them down to say 18"?

Hi redeye, you should be able to get some to root as hardwood cuttings, chinese elms are quite easy, even at large diameters.

Cheers,
