Well here we are at BBTH and what a venue! Harbour views, nice big room, ample parking and heaps of bonsai going on

The following pictures have been taken by Leigh, Lynette or Ken - Thanks guys!
There's about 60 or so delegates here and the organising committee from the Bonsai Federation of Australia have done a great job getting everything ready for us. Lots of familiar faces and lots of AusBonsai friends. Leigh, Ken (KCPoole), Ric, Brenda, Jan (Corymbia) Chris (Hartos), Lynette, Kenn, Leonarda, Greg (Watto) just to name a few.
The first demonstrator was Khanh Linh assisted by his student (and next door neighbour)Steve Crilley. Linh is creating a landscape with a composition of rocks and a couple of established Juniper - one semi cascade and one informal upright.
Unlike most landscapes, the tree's are planted directly onto the rocks and held in place with wire. He then positioned the roots along the crevices then covered them with his home made muck. Linh's muck consists of;
30% Clay - Organic from a creeck bed etc
30% Sand - River sand sieved to 1 to 2mm.
30% Peat moss - crushed and broken up a bit
10% Organic potting mix - aged and sieved to 2 to 4mm.
Mixed with water to a sticky consistency.

More to come as I get a chance...

Im sure Steve will ad more photos later.
The day was a ripper with great Demos from Barry Reeve who showed his cut and rejoin technique, Chris Allnut who showed some maple grafts and how it creates creat trunk girth, Shane Marmara worked for most of the day on his Juniper with great results, (that will be a great tree in a couple of years)
The demonstration by Khan Linh was the highlight for me, when he "plonked" the first tree ontop of the tall rock more than a few in the audience were thinking, hadnt thought of doing that.
What a great venue and a really great bunch of people.

I knew that Llinh's Keynote Demo would be wonderful.
Having been fortunate enough to visit Llinh, I am aware of his abilities and beautiful nature, with a desire to share his knowledge and art.
Thanks Steve for sharing some photos. Ken, we look forward to seeing more.
Bonsai on the River Murray has been a lot of fun today. Really about good friendships, Farmers Market, trip around Inland Botanic Gardens, wine tasting and succulent (for soes) shopping and viewing. Lots of discussion and philosophizing. Mass and Space ... Tomorrow we get into the hands on experience of playing with little trees!!!
Will aim for 2011 to have the crew from Mildura and Adelaide on the harbour once more.

As a side note.
That Linh's arrangement was so heavy it took three people to move it and all three had dents in their hands at the end.
The funniest bit was watching them "smile" as they were asked to stop and stand still for the photo.
