Trunk Grafting

Hi everyone, :D just a question about grafting, upon recently reading the post on Mr Ebihara, ( thanks to Jamie ) and checking out some links, I read where he has done trunk grafting :o to shorten the height of trees, "" has anyone ever tried this " successfully " and if so, which types of grafts did you use, and what species of tree were used "".
Just changing the subject a little, I myself in the past, did some "thru trunk" top branch grafts on Chinese Elms with some success, but I found that the new grafted branch actually grew thicker than any of the other branches on the tree, has anyone had this experience ?? and I might add that I used the branches off the " doner " plant, not the trunk :P. "anyone thanks"
James :)

never tried it myself mate, but though many many times how nice it would be to take a section of a trunk out to shorten it! wouldnt mind know if any one has attempted ths other than the japanese master :D

i would presume it works with deciduous, and also possibly fig, maybe a couple of other evergreens but couldnt be sure,
