Hi all,

Some of you may have seen my demo at Bonsai By The Harbour. I havent done anything further with the tree, but I thought I would start a new thread for it's progression.

Anyone with good virt skills might be able to virt a pot in for me. I am open to suggestions, but my initial thoughts were for a free-form crescent pot. I would be happy to see an alternatives. I am hoping to repot the tree around September/October this year.

I reckon, if I am going to go with a crescent pot - I will probably pot it higher into the pot, not sure how this will work with the direction I have the trunk going. I can see why you put it low in the pot for the virt John, I am just wondering whether there is a way to pot it higher back into the crescent. Maybe a slightly larger pot would allow it to go further back.

That could work.....I reckon it needs to sit high on the cliff to accommodate the angle of the trunk - what do you reckon?

I agree in that too because of the trunk and how to root has been growing.

if place higher. less disturbance on the roots.

I like the restyle of it btw.

Thanks John, I do too. It is just making things a little hard to find a pot for it. Might have to get one custom made.

yeah. crescent pots are rare here.

how much will it be to get one make?

G,day Leigh and Dumper, what I see is if you look at the first virtual and the black pot. Then put a line straight through at where the top of the trunk is in the pot.

Then move the tree to that point as the under side of the trunk, and back. I think that will work. The full crescent pot does not do it for me.

i thought i posted the virts up here a while back maybe i PM'd them to you ?

i found this pot while looking through some shimpaku bonsai images and found the pot, it is slightly longer but not as high as the one dumper put the tree in! this one is more of a regular sort of pot.. jamie

I have been searching ..... and searching for a pot for this tree. It has proven to be very difficult. So much so, I have even contemplated restyling the tree again!

The hardest thing to accommodate on this tree is the almost vertical drop of the trunk from the soil.

I was searching this forum for pots and came across one of Keith's (Kitoi). He calls it an accent pot and it is only 7.5cm - which is a bit small.

I am wondering if anyone else has a pot maybe around 15cm with a similar shape. I am wondering if Keith might be able to duplicate the one I copied the picture from (as I kinda like it altogether).

I think the jagged edge at the top might allow for the trunk to be placed through a low point of the rim, at the same time, enable me to accommodate the change in angle of the root system.

I have been thinking for a couple of weeks now that I will need a custom made pot. I think I will get my exact dimensions and put it out to tender.
