Carved Elm trunk

This is 1 of 30 Large Elms collected from a local Winery last year. They were removed by an Excavator with a 3 way bucket .Talk about brutality , they were grasped and ripped out of the ground .My wife spotted them on her way home from work and without realizing opened up a collecting spree over 2 days .This is one of the smaller trunks , severed but the bucket and split /damaged .Using a chainsaw i simply cut down the middle then carved with the grinder fitted with a tungsten tipped blade .

Further carving will take place when repotted .It should progress into a nice tree.Cheers Alpine

you're on fire my man. Amazing what we can turn some straight boring trunk into. These all lend themselves to variations of the broom. Get some Earls wood hardner on the elms! :D 8-) :D

Hi Anja , I cut the top and the roots off with the chainsaw , then drilled the center out and side holes with a spade bit and self boring drill , vee'd it down with the angle grinder {blade fitted} then cleaned it up with the router with a HSS Cutter ,rotary file and rotary rasp .It took about 4 hours .Cheers Alpine

"Another bigger elm" Now if that aint an understatement I dont know what is... Looking good Alpine.

I only have one question & its more a dumby than serious, coz I dont think you would overlook the obvious.... where does the water run out? It looks like the carving down the front is not as deep as the hollowand I didnt see a hole thru the base...
