hey all
a neighbour has passed this pot onto me there is three trunks in the pot wondering can anyone help with id please

It is possibly a Ficus salisifolia, although there is some confusion. As to that name, there is another that escapes me at the moment.

Both refer to the willow type leaf, and say the common name as such. I thought it would come to me but had to refer to Jery Meislik's book celebensis.

Mick, it looks like a ficus maclellandii 'Alii'. It is a hybrid that is more durable than benjamini so is being grown a lot as a pot plant, both in and outdoors.
I'm not sure how good they will be for bonsai. I have grown a couple from cuttings this year. I am yet to see if the leaves will reduce in size and the trunks tend to be fairly straight without much taper. Time will tell.

F. salicifolia and F.nerifolia is the one i think you are looking for pup. there are definate variations in the "willow leaf" though, i have two and the leaves are completly different from each other except the general long and narrow one has a more pointed tip the other is rather round tipped. width also varies between the two i have (please dont take this as a correction pup, just adding to what you were saying )

It looks like a plant that Leong Kwong has at Bonsai South ... he has a number of them.

I believe it is likely to be Ficus Microcarpa Ampela.

With so many figs it is sometimes quite difficult to accurately identify them but what leads me to believing it is Ampela are the 'eucalypt' shaped leaves.

That's probably Ficus binnendykii, the Narrowleaf fig.

I think that Lennard is on the right track. The fig has longer, less broad leaves than Ampel.

The large and long leaves are not salicifolia but the closest images to it are Ficus binnendijkii /alii or variant.
Always hard to definitely ID Ficus without fruits.
