hey guys
i was wondering how much and how often should i water my Japanese maple to keep it as healthy as possible, as it is now i water it once every few days, sometimes once a week. it seems to be doing fine, it's not raining much here either, but its constantly cold so nothing will evaporate from the soil. whenever i water i first check how damp the top soil is and it is constantly moist. Anyone got any advice/comments/opinions on this.
Simon

Depends how much moisture the soli holds and for how long
If your soil does Not dry out somewhat, then you risk root rot
let it get to just still moist then rewater. For my trees in Datomite, that is daily now but In Ray nescis soil it would be 3 days this time of the year

Hi Simon , as Ken said it depends on you soil mix . Mine are watered once a week for the duration of Winter however i do have several under a pergola they tend to dry out a little quicker .Don't be fooled by a mix that looks on the dry side , it may very well be wet at the mid to lower section of the pot .
If you can remove it from the pot "NOT REPOT" prior to the next watering and check the moisture content .Then place it back and water if necessary .This will give you an idea of how you Soil/Mix is performing .Cheers Alpineart
