Crazy Root!

How's this for inspiration from nature?

Repotting a mature pyracantha when we discovered this root growing from the base of the trunk (as usual) but then turning around and growing back into the trunk - effectively forming a handle! It was entirely connected to the trunk and appeared healthy (well, at least up until when I cut it off!)

This naturally occurring phenomena has been named the Summerell Nebari Syndrome in honour of the most senior bonsai person present when it was discovered!
