Thanks Dumper, I'll be sitting there with a brick to throw through the telly at the first mention of Mr Miyagi or the bloody Karate Kid

Cheers,

They have changed that to Thursday not Wednesday. How could anybody talk about bonsai on a populist forum without mentioning the most powerful and compelling media influence in history "karate kid"
Our community is tiny. It would be even smaller without Karate Kid. In fact, I would suggest that this very community would be 20% of it's size without Karate Kid.
If there's an elephant in the room, say it.
Cheers

Woah woah WOAH! You mean the "Karate Kid" has to do with Bonsai? Here I was thinking it was about a skinny white kid, gettin' his but whooped till Miagi gave him the car wax. ;)

Hi Lindsay,
'twas said in jest, I'm actually quite fond of my telly and of the Karate Kid trilogy. We need a smilie that expresses "tongue in cheek".
But I'd like to think that those practicing bonsai pre 1984 might have contributed to more than 20% of it's current day popularity even in our little bonsai community.

Cheers,
Mojo

The first thing mentioned by the Circle was Karate Kid and bonsai. Over the years I have contributed to numerous tv segments based around Karate kid and bonsai. I realize that they are Hollywood B movies but they introduced a generation of kids to bonsai at an early age. The outcomes have clearly demonstrated that A Hollywood B movie can be more inspiring than a battalion of preening officials enforcing "the right way".
Long Live Karate Kid.
Cheers
Lindsay
