Howzit All,

This is a purple bougainvillea I collected in Lahaina about a month ago. The truck is three inches thick and about fifteen inches tall. I also took a dremel to the parts that I had cut the branches off and tried to make it look more natural. All comments are welcome. :D

Nice movement. Well done, Tim. I have one about the same size, but the trunk is very straight. I think it will get the trunk chop treatment, and hope it will shoot back.

Hi Tim
I'm being given 3 different coloured bougs by my daughters' partner. They are at his old house but I don't ever remember seeing them. They have been in the ground for about 10 years so I hope they have trunks the size of yours...I'll be very happy if they are :P Digging them up in two weeks hopefully...when I get a few days off over a weekend.

TIMMY!!! nice score mate :D

that bark is excellent! and it has great movement for a collected tree :D

i think i read somewhere that boug dont heal so you might have to look into carving a shari into the trunk to match up the dead wood ;)

nice score champ :D

Beautiful Bark Tim :-)

Can you tilt it to the right a little at the next repot?
I feel it looks like its about to fall out of the pot to the left, and if you tilt it, will be more "Balanced". Also give a little more interest to the lower trunk where it emarges from the soil

Howzit Loretta,

My bougie was in the ground about the same so I'm sure that yours will have a nice truck too. :D After I had dug it up I had root pruned it hard I wrapped it in some rags then soaked it in some humic acid and superthrive then took it home. (I was at work) For my soil mix I use one part volcanic cinder, one part akadama and 5% pine bark.

nice boug,

i have a huge boug, been in the ground for about 20 years plus, dug it up about a year ago and since then have repotted it just recently, it had a mass of shoots that i cut back and it is already reshooting (have repotted into 100% diatomite).

In my experience the bouganvillia will heal, and some of the MASSIVE saw marks and cuts on my boug down low (where the branches didnt just die back) have healed over, but gievn the size and when i knew they were trimmed, the process is extremely slow.

Mahalo Jamie. :D :D

Howzit Ken,
That thought had crossed my mind, probably the next go-around I'll shift it more to the right.

Much Mahalo for the information. :D Question, did you use anything to treat the cuts on your bougies?

thats good news,

i wasnt a 100% sure on whether they heal or not, i cant remember where i got the info either!

sealing with a kiyonal(??spelling) which is cut paste would be fine, if you dont have any plastecine mixed with vegetable oil is what i was using before i got some cut paste :D

Howzit Jamie,

I've been using Shin-Kiyonal Bonsai Tree Cut Sealant for awhile now and it seems to help.

No iw asnt using anything on the cuts, unfortunantly this was "butchering" done to the boug when it was just a garden plant, and these cuts were done anyweher from as little as 2 years ago, to as much as 15 years ago or more.

so perhaps a healing paste would help accelerate healing, but in my case the wounds are up to as much as 70-100mm in diameter, so its a good excuse to do some carving, and these hardcore plants should be able to withstand a fairly decent cut and grind i recon.
