What is your next tatoo?

I'm a bit of a "I don't like Tatts" guy, but I would actually consider this...hmmm.....My wife is gonna spew about this!

my missus has been wanting a tattoo for a while and she was even considering a bonsai lucky man i am

Im still looking for a good classic pine bonsai design for an embroidered cushion, may have to resort to a textbook sketch, by the time I attempt to sketch a copy it will be different enough that copyright won't matter! Some variety of pine because I want to do the needles as short individual stitches, the Chinese use this in their embroidery to great effect. Something with enough trunk I can have fun making texture with different shades and thicknesses of thread..
The pot can be a low sheen satiny material.
Rhiannon will know what I am talking about, probably Greek to most of you guys.
However, house furnishings OK, tattoos NOT.

The shadow effect of a beautiful tree does it for me, even the most ignorant would recognise my passion and likely mindset.

Buck the trend, I know of one chick who has "Japanese" italics in her neck that declares her as something she certainly isn't.

She wasn't happy once she found out, trust me. Laser surgery here we come.

fair enough tech! thats were the missus wants it too, the back of her neck...

aslong as you know what the symbol is your getting it is ok, but when it is one that you see in the tattoo shop and have no idea what it means then that is just silly!

a shadow effect tree would be pretty awesome too keep sketching mate eventually you get better at it, im not the best at sketch but i found a hard pencil with a sharp tip and going lightly lightly is the way to go, then it is just practice

Actually, your avatar might work for my embroidery, tech. I presume the right hand branch should be considered deadwood and done in a lighter colour? I can try taking that, working it in embroidery, then post ya back the photo for your avatar, if you would like?

Agreed with Jamie, drawing is just about practice and a really big eraser, just keep rubbing out the bits which didn't go quite right and trying again, sooner or later your pencil will luck on the exact right place and angle!

Might be a good idea. then I can do the unmentionable and trace it from computer screen, haha. Actually should be about the right size for the cushion! Doesn't really need a pot, I can do it the way you have, actually puts more emphasis on the tree that way. One change in the final shape, the lowest left pad needs to extend just a little further out, widen the tree just a bit. Will also check photos of similar trees to see how close the foliage should go to the trunk, and what looks good at the branching point.

No idea how long this will take, if I get the embroidery bug roused I could finish it in three days. One if I didn't have kids! Have all the materials here, just need to focus on it, and not get distracted by life. Bug me by PM if I don't get moving quickly, I tend to task switch to whatever seems most urgent and squeaky wheels get more attention.

If it works out ok, and you like it, you can have the cushion cover! For me the interest is in working these techniques, not particularly in having more household furnishings. None of the materials will cost me anything, just stuff I have collected over the years.

I'm sooo behind. I haven't been here in forever, combination of holidays and now working full time (at Spotlight - cheap threads, yaaaaay!!). But I just caught this and was heaps curious. What sort of stitching are you planning on doing for the cushion? I've got a vague idea of your vision, but was wondering if you wanted to elaborate?

I use a program for generating cross stitch patterns from photos, but it sounds as though you won't find that very helpful.

thats not a bad idea. if i had to put ink in my skin it would have to be something to do with nature.
