hey everyone
i got a cotoneaster the other week to practise my wirring and make a cascade
this is my 4th time wirring, any suggestions welcome
am i on the right track???

if u are going to cascade it, you will probably want to add some more movement in the trunk. it is also quite bottom heavy ie: all the groth is at the tip. i think it coudl make a great informal upright if you wack it in the ground and let it grow a little i am a fan of cascade bonsai so maybe try and work some more movement into the trunk.

cheers for the pics, i am waiting a few more weeks then im going to start putting more movment into the cascade part. i'm not much of a cotoneaster fan but i reckon they make good cascade's when done right correct me if im wrong lol

i agree about the movement in the tail, was there any foliage in that long bare section before you styled it? the wiring looks pretty good fo only your fourth time, when i first started wiring i made the mistake of not anchoring the wire properly, what you want to do is when you wire a branch anchor it down the trunk at least 3-4 coils, this will help hold the branch a lot better

im quite partial to semi cascades and good full cascades too i dont mind cotoneaster as a species either but havent seen many up here in hervey bay. maybe somehting to look at when i am down bris next and have some "play money". that might be a while though.

the bare section was like that when i got it. but its got a little bit of foilage on it thats started comming up in the last couple of weeks(bad photography doesn't show much), i read some where that cotoneaster shoot off branches where theres foilage but it takes a season or two. thats what im hopping for. i brought this from bunnings to practise wirring cost like $7 or some thing.
got a fair few cuttings off it aswell, well worth $7 lol

reckon if its a cascade you should remove top centre at third branchlet----reduce left hand branch also--let it grow for at least a season-

its started to shoot pretty hard from the tail part in the last 2 weeks, im going to let it go for a few months then chop it some more.
it surprised me how much growth has popped up on the cascade part compared to the pic thats uploaded. trees grow slow when u stare at them alot
