I was wondering if anyone had any hints on preserving driftwood to avoid long term rotting which won't hard the tree. This is for the purpose of current Tanuki project. The time from what I can tell is a type of Australian Hardwood, most likely a Eucalypt of some description. another looks like Iron bark, A very rich Red in colour and dam heavy.

I was going to use that black tar like pruning sealant for ant timber under the soil, but would like to treat the whole thing if required.

I have recently treated exposed wood on a Bougy which are notorious for rotting

Nice and hard now and it dries colourless.

just be careful of putting to many coats of the earls on. it can leave a semi gloss finish. one to two coats max.

I just treated one of my privetts and my boug with earls wood hardner as it was getting alittle soft near the pot, i removed all rooted wood and did 2 coats over 2 days. Quite impressed with its absorbion and hardness. i can see no sign of it been glossy. the boug has recently been lime sulfured so its quite white atm but the colour will darken alittle in no time. This winter i will finally get around to doing some carving and reducing on that top ( been saying that 2 years now). It will be repotted next spring.

Looks good. Was the wood 'rooted' because it had rotted then?

OOPS i guess you could say it was rooted from been rotted, thats why u shouldnt post when your tired and been drinking sorry guys
