NEW MUDLARK POTS

I spent half a day and a few dollars with Penny at her Newcastle home getting some pots for spring planting. There are still two pots to go but I am very pleased with the ones I have potted.
The callistimon has always been a touchy tree with excellent roots and poor foliage. After 5 years doing nothing it started to grow last year and I hope it will fill out a bit more this year. I bought this pot simply because I loved it and it is ideal for the callistimon but I feel it is a bit small. Rather than endanger this native I have ordered the same glaze in a slightly larger, slightly deeper pot. The azalea has to be wired and styled but the colour of this pot and its roundness suit the tree very well. The flowers are off white with a faint pinkish-purple tinge so they will look good against the pot colour and when the foliage bulks out the balance will be good. The Melaleuca Revolution Gold is coming along very well but this month is the lowest point in its year when the winter blues strike it hard and the normally vibrant lime green leaves go a dull mustard yellow. But when spring warms its limbs it will be ready for a pot and this ideal pot from Mudlark suits it admirably. It is a matt finish with a dull green soft textured glaze giving a very earthy balance to the pot. Penny's pots really suit our natives - there is a refined informality about them that brings out more in an Aussie native than an oriental pot. Penny has unloaded her kiln and has a flock of pots on sale and just in time for spring potting. some of those are coming home with me next time I visit. A very subtle eucalyptus type glaze I can't wait to get my hands on.
