Just wanted to share a pic of some flowers on a tiny little kurume. The tree itself isn't worth photographing, but the flwoers are gorgeous!

You should definitely take some pics tomorrow Ken! I'd love to see some!
I love Azaleas too, but have only just started to try grow them again after a very poor success rate in the past

Why did you take them off? Do you prefer them not to flower? We have one fellow in our local club who never lets any of his azaleas flower - because he doesn't like the flowers. I have a satsuki azalea that does not flower - can't remember the variety but it was bred not to flower. I could never understand why. I think the flowers are what makes them special. Each to their own, I guess.
Mitcell and Nathan, your azalea flowers are beautiful. Most of my azaleas I have no idea if they are satsuki or not - came from local nurseries so probably not, but the flowers are all doubles (hose on hose I am told). Do any of the satsuki azaleas have double flowers?

Most of my kurume are in grow boxs, trying to put on girth. I'm working on the theory that the energy going into creating the buds and then flowers, is better served going into foliage at this point.

Thanks for the reply Mitchell. Makes sense I guess. All the azaleas I have have reasonable girth - about 2 cm. I am only into smaller shohin size - otherwise they get too heavy to lift!

Probably 'Sao to me' (pronounced Sow, as in lady pig

, to may) Glenda, which by the way do flower - just not very often or very much if/when they do. The flower is realy large when it does as well, so a good thing it doesn't happen often

Yep - thats the one. It is grown from a cutting given to me from a local bonsai member who has heaps of azaleas, but doesn't like them in flower. He said his has never flowered. Most of my others I think are common azaleas and have big flowers - mostly doubles, but the same local member also gave me a cutting that has a small pink single flower. It amazes me how easily they grow from cuttings. The one with the small pink flower actually flowered 6 weeks after taking the cutting!
