Has anyone tried to grow Darwinia fascicularis ssp. fascicularis as a shohin-bonsai? The foliage of wild specimens resembles pine bonsai in miniature. I grew a couple of them from woody cuttings for the past 3 years and started styling one of them this year. I could post my progress with this species here, but I would really appreciate any tips on growing this species or genus.

Anyone done anything with these over the last six years? Would like to know how they respond to pruning etc?

Doesn't sound like it! Haha....

It simply doesn't back-shoot from the old or young bare wood. You have to prune young branches while they still have leaves on them. After a number of years I achieved a stage when it was a 10 cm-tall shohin, which looked like a cute miniature pine. However, it died. Possible reasons include: over-pruning combined with re-potting, moving houses (changed microclimate).
