Hey guys

I heard you guys mentioning a lot Seasol as one of the fertilizers that is commonly used, so I went and bought one today.

On the box it says to use 25ml/9L for pot plants and fertilize every 2-4 weeks.
So what do you guys do? How much do you use and how often do you fertilize. I guess it would probably vary for which tree
are you fertilizing. I have mostly figs and then I have some elms, lilly pillys, a pine and few others.

Would greatly appreciate your help

I like to think of Seasol as a rooting formula/tonic and generally would not sell it as a stand alone fertilizer, especially for figs. Great for use during transplant or after collecting, it enables the roots to recover and reduces stress.

For a fert try something like Dynamic lifter for the figs or a complete fertilizer like Harvest. I generally only use dynamic lifter on my figs, I also add a cap ful/9L about once every 2 weeks of Seasol as they are constantly being moved around / repotted etc.

Firstly Seasol is not a fertilizer, but an additive used for various reasons.

At the national collection we use Seasol every two weeks with a liquid fertilizer like Powerfeed, Maxicrop, Nitrosol etc at the recommended rates.

Early spring I use 30ml Seasol + 30ml Maxicrop per 9 ltr every two weeks.

Then as it warms up I will use 30ml Seasol + 30ml Nitrosol per 9 ltr every two weeks.

I may also dig in or top dress with some Osmocote.

Is Charlie Carp ok to add the mix ?

I see, alright might get some other fertilizer then.

But should I keep using Seasol every 2 weeks or is it useless if the trees have not been recently repotted?

I use charlie carp and Seasol on alternate weeks thru the growing season

What about mixing it with seasol powerfeed.

Exactly what i do, I might swap the seasol for Seasol Powerfeed as Most of my repotting is done .

Seasol has many beneficial properties for plants and regular use encourages healthy growth and good immunity against disease. It is a soil conditioner rather than a fertliser and as stated it is very good at repotting time. It can be mixed with other products. I mix it in the same can as other fertilisers to save time, just check the bottle of the fertiliser you use to check compatibilty. I try to use different fertilisers regularly so that the plant is getting a constant stream of goodies but not from the one source. The stage of maturation of your tree will determine the fertilser you use. Eg don't use thrive ( 27 Nitrogen) on a mature tree as this will encourage too much growth and that fine ramification you've spent years achieving will coarse up and become thick! . For a younger tree which needs growth quickly thrive is excellent for obtaining fast results. Always check the nitrogen level and that it is a balanced fertiliser (added trace elements and minerals etc). Natives don't like high phosphorus. Knowing your trees and regularity of fertilising is the key, stick to a routine. Hope this helps
