This has been on my agenda for some time .I had permission from an employee to collect , today i sought the owners permission ,These were self sown Deodar or Lebani Cedars which i have had a keen eye on for quite some time .As i was digging i struck a hard object , to my surprise it was a piece of the old drive way grate .I showed the owner and he gave me the lo down on the grate and also informed me that he has been spraying these tree's with roundup for a couple of seasons .
Obviously he wasn't successful as i have seen these for at least 3-4 years .They were at my local Servo' .Anyway now i can add a few cedars to the list of trainers.

very nice mate, looks pretty healthy!
di this one practially ground layer itself like the torniquette method? could see close enough with the roots being brown and also the iron. definatly a strong tree and it makes me think that the iron from the steel has been used very well by the tree

Hi Jamie , its actually seed grown there has been numerous seedlings collected from the cedars here .The tornaque hasn't harmed the tree however it did flatten the base of the trunk which nicely fitted the rock it is sitting on .I'm surprised they survived the roundup , i have actually seen the chap spraying them . The silt they were growing in is very rich loam hence the good roots .Cheers Alpine

Well i'm sure you people are sick of my Azalea's , don't woory only half of them are out so expect a few more progression posts.

This was a break in the middle of digging Cork Bark Oaks and potting up acorns . This particular cedar has powered on to the point it needed a major trim

.
SANY0080.JPG
This was quick and precise , i have kept most of the branches for future jin's and to aid pumping the trunk .
SANY0081.JPG
It is still in the same pot and will get a re-pot when i find the time .
SANY0082.JPG
About 6-8 major cuts cuts and a quick hook and hold wire placement was all the spare time i had . Well on it way to a Root over Rock ,Semi Cascade Cedrus Deodora .

Thanks for sharing. I love Atlantic cedars a lot as bonsai
I have a really big slanting style cedar and it looks majestic
In Chinese we call them snow pine-that's translated lol
Cheers.

Hi FMB, This is a Deodara not an Atlantica .It has a weeping habit and a longer needle. Not as impressive as Atlantica but very nice all the same . The word "Snow Pine" is very appropriate for these Cedars , i must remember that Name . Could you post a pic or topic of your Slanting Style Cedar , i would very much like to see it .
Cheers Alpine

Well its trimming time again and since i had some spare time i thought i would work this over again .

P1080680.JPG
I trimmed the elongated shoots back hard and needle pluck the living daylights out of it to open up the canopy .
P1080681.JPG
P1080682.JPG
Making headway in the right direction , now all it needs is some gentle wiring which will take place after a few other wiring jobs . I never thought to re-pot this and raise the trunk/rock in the pot to show off the root over rock a wee bit better , always next season .
Cheers Alpineart

Hi Guys thanks for the positive feedback . Its a pity this wasn't an Atlantic Cedar , but you can't have everything in one bundle .
Cheers Alpine .

I love it. Try to bring and keep the foliage near the trnk and use escape branches for Fattening.

After a long absence this has had a makeover, a good trim and an average wire job

P1100544.JPG
. Its still only early times but making progress in the right direction . This particular tree won best cascade in the local Horticultural show last year , not looking this good , i hope to enter it again . This along with the other collected self grown seedlings are doing well . While all the other are blue this one is a golden specimen all from the same tree

??? All where blue when collected .
Cheers Alpineart
