best time to carve a prunus?

Gday all, i have a large Prunus that i got off Skippy, was just wondering when the best time to do some
carving.

Its always a good time to carve mate. Winter is probably best for decidous trees, but seriously, any time is OK as long as you give a bit of TLC in the after care department.

Don't go too nuts mate! That trunk could make and impressive tree with branch work. You have some fairly nice taper going. Maybe it's just me but I can see an image of a very grounded/strong tree there.
What are you intending on carving?
Edit- or is the back all carved out to achieve the taper seen...

just thinking of a bit of carving up top as its a flat cut.
u cant see it know that its not naked.

I work with prunus a lot so I can advise you not to do any drastic work from mid autumn to mid winter or you risk dieback which always seems to happen on the most important branches. Otherwise, they are really tough and you can almost do anything you like to them at other times of the year.
