Most of us have heard of Omiya north of Tokyo and I have visited here in the past.

I am in the first stages of planning a trip to Osaka which is a way south.

Has anybody had an experience with Bonsai nurseries or potters etc in and around Osaka or Kyoto?

Perhaps slightly off topic, and unfortunately not much help either, but I am interested in this as well. I have been to Omiya before, very nearly two years ago, and I am hoping (pending savings!!) to go back again in May 2011 for the annual Bonsai festival

I would also be interested in knowing about bonsai in the Osaka area as I may or may not fly into Osaka and have a couple of days up my sleeve!

I did a fair bit of looking last time I was there and only found one that I could reach via transport. Several of those listed on that site That were inner city were closed down.

When you are in Kyoto be sure to visit kojuen. It's a shohin nursery of very high standard and only 15 mins from the Shinkansen station.

That shohin nursery is fantastic. We actually got there after closing time and the taxi driver spoken for us and they actually opened up their nursery for us for about an hour.

Well worth a visit if in Kyoto.

When the extreme becomes ordinary, is that a sign that something is wrong?

For my money, it seems that balance, proportion and dynamic movement have been sacrificed to the mantra that "Thicker is Better".

Maybe sumo is the new S-bend.

Just my thoughts.
