hi everyone,

this little azalea was bound for the skip at work early last year so i brought it home hoping to make something of it. I havent really done much to it other then put it into a spare pot i had, it was sort of twin trunked one much larger than the other so i bent the smaller one down hoping for a sort of semi cascade i think it comes off the the trunk abit low so not sure what to do, and should i put it into a larger pot aswell.

any ideas welcome :D

hi mate, this one looks pretty healthy, why was work gonna throw it out??? or did you rescue it and brought it back to health?

the pot it is in is plenty big for the size of the tree mate, im notsure how it will go as a semi cascade but that low branch/trunk will be good to use as a sacrifice ;) let it grow strong for a while, being into spring now things will start moving with it, if you wait to atleast mid summer then you will have more to work with. semi cascade isnt necessarily out of the equation either mate, its all about giving the tree time to grow into the style :D

very true champ! let it regains its strength untill it is super stong and growing hard, then go from there mate, you dont often see nursery stock azalea that have one trunk, maybe thats something to consider?

Wow what a great little find, and well saved! Beautiful tree, i love the nebari, and the bright flowers. Nice one :D
You could, as Jamie said, keep the low branch to help thicken the base and grow it up. Later cutting that one off and making an informal upright. Or maybe you could lean it to the left a bit and make the first branch into a semi cascade branch bringing the top over to the left on top of it. If you want to keep all the length of the that first branch you should wire it and put some curves into it before it thickens and stiffens up though.

Do you know the name of it? It looks like one I saw on the weekend that was a great semi cascade, that one was called 'Princess Maude'

Have fun with it!

hey nealweb,

yer the nebari was what caught my eye and made me take it home or else it would have got thrown out with the rest. well i will throw some wire around that branch intending for a semi cascade an down the track if im not happy then like jamie said just use it to thicken the base, and i wouldnt have a clue of the name i couldnt find i tag but yer the flowers are quite bright indeed.
thanks for the advise lads!!
